[Hebrews 10:24-25] “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
I think in today’s world we’re more likely to see people kicking each other with spurs, than spurring (encouraging one another with “love and good deeds.” It’s easier to point out the problems and problem people than to smile, shake a hand, give a high five, or a nice compliment.
In today’s world, it’s unfortunate when the nice people are not the norm and seem so out of place that they aren’t trusted, or their motives are questioned when they say or do nice things.
And while this verse may not be talking about texting when it says, “not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing”, I think it applies to how we can get too comfortable in thinking that texting, emailing, voice-mailing, or any technological tool can take the place of good old-fashioned, face-to-face meetings. But since we’re too busy, easy will have to do, right?
Seriously, would you rather get an emoji hug, or a real one? An emoji heart, or actually hear and see someone tell you that they love you and how much you mean to them?
I know that sometimes we do have to rely on that text and technology, I’m just saying don’t let that be the default. And if it is the default don’t let it lead to a fault of not communicating and connecting better with others, especially those you love and care about. They need to hear your voice, see your face, not just an emoji, no matter how well-meaning it is.
Today, I hope something I’ve written here has encouraged you!
And I hope that wherever you go today, whatever you do, that you will also be an encourager of others. You may not know it, but if you keep a prayer in your heart, God will bless you to be a blessing to someone today.
And that “Day” is approaching when our Savior will return.
Thankfully, we don’t have to wait for that day to follow Him and be like Him and to love one another as He loves us! So, I hope and pray we’ll each do our parts with all our hearts to continue to bless, encourage and spiritually spur each other onward and upward to godliness and greatness!
