18 Hear, ye deaf; and look, ye blind, that ye may see. [Isaiah 42:18]
I had to smile when searching online for scriptures relating to Jesus healing the blind.
I found many websites listing how many times the blind were healed and there was even a website offering a “complete” list of the miracles Jesus performed during His ministry on earth. I smiled because no one could have recorded all of His miracles. They were not only countless; but many were often private and personal. Thankfully, beyond the Bible and other Holy Scriptures, miracles still exist today, in each of our lives…if we will look to God and trust in His love and mercy.
We all need miracles.
Whether it’s healing the blind, the sick, restoring a relationship, a marriage, or finding ways to fix our car and pay our bills. He can still calm our modern-day storms, or strengthen our hearts to endure until the storm passes. His miracles are always personal and unique to our situations. How great to have such a love in our lives!
Speaking of which, love also comes in all shapes and sizes.
Unfortunately, many miss out on the benefits of giving and receiving love because they have become blinded by adhering to the world’s definitions of love. The world believes that the shapes and sizes of love are limited, or are exclusive to those with beauty, attraction, fame, finances and other successes. If someone is not as rich, the right color, weight, height, nationality, or location (distance), they can be shewed away, shunned and shut out. Their lack of so-called prosperity can cruelly lead to their demise and despair.
Thankfully, the Lord has a different (and definitive) definition of love.
It is not limited by or based upon the blindness caused by our color, creed, financial, social status, or any other types of “blindness” that can infiltrate and inflict our lives. With His love and light He can heal the blindness in people’s eyes and in their hearts.
I’m sure you’d agree that physical blindness isn’t the only blindness that Jesus needs to heal in today’s world.
His love can and will also help remove the cataracts of contention, the astigmatism of selfishness and restore our vision to see the good in ourselves and in others. This is not a love that overlooks evil, but one that creates a force stronger than evil. Only the love and light of Jesus Christ can restore sight, heal our hearts, give us hope and shine a light into our lives brighter than any darkness and despair.
Therefore, if we are to help Him heal our world, we must look beyond clothes, color, race, and riches.
We can learn to see the good in everyone, even if they’ve hidden it, or forgotten about it. They are still a child of God. They still have a chance and a choice for change. Thus, this kind of love can only come from our Savior. And once we receive it—once we can see more clearly ourselves—then we must reach out and help others to see.
