What do you see when you look in the mirror?
Do you see wrinkles, regrets, mistakes, memories, faith, failures, hopes, a hero? Perhaps you only see and feel the cutting shards of barrenness and brokenness and feel there is no hope for your future.
Do you worry about what other people see when they look at you? Are you wondering if they are whispering behind your back? Maybe a gesture of friendship and concern was taken offensively, and their gossip has finally overflowed into your awareness.
It sounds daunting and depressing, doesn’t it?
I will tell you a secret (which shouldn’t be a secret).
It doesn’t matter what negative, abusive things you’ve heard from someone else, or have said to yourself as much as what God sees and says when He looks at you.
He wants you to see (and reveal) your true beauty—inside and out. He knows this world can fill your mind with so much garbage and can hurt your heart in ways that can make you disbelieve your own worth.
And it’s hardest when the sharp shards come from family members, or from your friends.
This is not uncommon, unfortunately. You hope for the best, but sometimes you have to move on. What shouldn’t be uncommon is that you start looking in God’s mirror more often. And not only looking but receiving and focusing on the good things in your life. They are there if you learn to look with a God’s eye view.
Have you ever asked yourself what does God see when He looks at you?
Do you think all He sees are the problems and imperfections?
No, He looks past your past, the make-up, mess-ups, and your give-ups. He can still see the beautiful child He created beyond the masquerades and charades that you’ve created or have allowed others to create in your life.
It’s time to break free from the losses and lies of your past.
Shatter your false mirrors with a fist of faith. You’ve got a new image in Jesus Christ. You’ve got a new reflection of your worth through the love and beauty He planted inside of you. You are still a child of God. Yes, you’ve been hurt, scared, scarred, disregarded, and discarded.
Nevertheless, He has not and will not forget or forsake you.
If anyone tells you otherwise, they need to spend more time on God’s porch and look into His mirror.
If anyone persecutes you or forsakes your friendship, forgive them and let it go. Though misunderstandings and gossip may persist, don’t let their hearsay turn into heresy.
In the end, stop staring into the mirror of mistakes, look to God, and live again through His love for you. When you reflect His love in your heart, mind, and life, you will feel loved and alive, and you can be a bright reflection of God’s love to help other people see themselves and their true beauty with a loving God’s eye view.
